WET FOOT WELL'S!

Hi All,

Following our recent rainy weather a problem has developed on the GX that Id not seen before.

I noticed that the passenger side footwell carpet was soaked after my journey back from work. When I lifted the carpet up, the groove's/ troughs pressed in the floor had collected a fair bit of water and all the underlay was soaked.

Any ideas what might cause this or indeed were it could be leaking from???

I cant see any evidence of a leak having come from the dash (although Ive not been able to rule this out). The only hole I can see in the footwell under the carpet is a small lozenge/slot that is about 30mm long and 10mm wide. I also has a tongue of metal that sits within it. It looks to have been put there with a purpose but again Ive not seen anything to suggest this is at fault? Is this a common feature on Mk1's???

Me and a friend tried shining a torch through the hole to see if it could be seen outside, but to no avail?

Has anyone experienced similar problems or are there any common leaks that might cause this???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Tom

PS I will post some photos once Ive figured out how to do it!

Mine was a badly blocked rubber in the scuttle… Bert told me to cut the end of it off and now it will drain beautifully!  8)

Sat inside it today when it was lashing down with rain! It is the bottom of the windscreen, was dripping really bad.

Luckily I was able to cover the fuse box with a carrier bag to keep it dry!

Have got some black mastik so will have a go at re-sealing it once dry as a temporary fix. Perhaps get the screen out over winter to sort it properly!

Cheers all
