we're leaking:(

this has gradually got worse, probably to do with all the rain we'v had recently but its a problem :(  i noticed the rear passenger side footwell got damp, then a week or two later it went soggy, then a week or two later the front passenger footwell went damp, then soggy :(  i removed all the carpet and found no evidence it was running down from above :dontknow:  i noticed a previous owner attempted to repair the floorpan, (putty smeared here and there) this was in the front. the wet started in the back and moved to the front, but no evidence of a leak was in the back, only this repair in the front footwell :dontknow: so im at a bit of a loss, dont know where to start or what tests to do to find the leak? could do with a little help please!

cheers

Greg join the club!

I've got a wet passenger side footwell although mine is in the front.  Have you checked the plastic seals behind the door cards?

I have noticed that when I wash my car there is evidence of water which has run inside the door and the out at the rear of the door into the footwell!!!  It comes in at the rear of the door where there is a cutout, maybe worth a check!!!!

As for my leak, any help would be appreciated.  The water appears to be coming in behind the dash, and drips down by the fuse box into the footwell.  I have had a look up by the ign module and wiper mech, but there doesnt appear to be anywhere the water could be getting in???  has anyone else got to the bottom of a leak like this??????

All help appreciated!

Cheers

Jamie

if  water is getting onto the fuse box could lead to big problems .usual leak points are front slam panel drain holes blocked, gromets out of place on the bulkhead, corner of windscreens (newer glass not as thick as genuine glass ), plastic  sheeting in doors damaged, drain holes if factory roof, rear light seals, rear boot seal ,seal around heater fan. trial and error in trying to find leak always handy to have a mate spray car with a hose pipe whilst you check inside.

thanks for the replys! on close inspection it does actually seem the water is running down from the tailgate, hiding under wires till it trickles down into the floorpan. im checking the rear light seals and tailgate rubbers, il sort it now i know where its coming from   thanks again,

If its coming from the tailgate end also try the hinge crommets at the top of the tailgate where the wires pass from main shell into the tailgate.
I found this another place that was leaking in when i tested mine.
Strip all the carpet out and dust down with talcum powder and this will then show once it leaks again where the water is coming from.

I have small water feature going on too in my clipper. All these ideas are going to help fantastically. I had noticed some water in the tray under the windscreen when I had the bonnet up the other day.
Should that tray should have a seal to stop water getting in or holes to let it out? If it has drainage holes, where are they?

I have this on and off and after considering boot seals and side screen seals finally found the cause in my case - holes in the rear of the sunroof drain tray  . If you have a factory fitted sunroof, this can develop leaks around the four exit points of the drain tubes - two the rear and two to the front. The water leaks onto the headlining, but not through it (hence no sign of leaks without headling down) and finds its way down either the B or the C posts and into the footwell or boot.

Yuk - that was pretty bunged up.
Quite hard to see in there on mine with blue paint, thanks for your pics.
I hope that works.

On the subject of leaks…

In both the passenger and driver footwell there is a hooked tab of metal cut out of the floor just after it begins to rise toward the bulkhead (I think they're for securing the carpet/sound proofing).

After leaving the car overnight in the rain on my sloped drive (nose down) I accelerate up the road and water pours into the footwells from the afore-mentioned holes!

Has anyone else had this? Any suggestions as to how the water is getting into the cavity between the 'inner floor' and the bulkhead?
