water leak in the boot

Hi,

Really need some help with this one.  I am new to the site and only have had a Golf for about three months now.  She is in good nick and i must say just passed the MOT with no probs.

I have one issue that i am finding hard to solve.  I have a water leak that gose into the boot and seems to only come in on the left hand side.

I have tried to see where, but no luck, i have checked the seals and they look fine, dose anyone have any idea where this might be coming in.

Any help would be great.

Many thanks Rob

i had this (having only had a golf for the same amount of time too actually)
i checked the little rubber boots at the top of the tailgate with the wiring in. and all my seals. turned out it was my left light. it was missing a nut or 2 so let water in. tightened that up and was fine! :)

good luck!

I'm mopping mine out every time it rains!! :redfaced:

I have found the leak by taking everything out of the boot and spraying the rear of the car with a hose.

Good luck

presuming its a tintop usual leak points are rear lights, grommets for wires to rear de-mister, boot seal,   holes in hatch for wiper/ badges …..  if i have forgot a few please add to list ……but i find it's usualy the rear lights as most of the water drains onto these ….

Mk1 2l TSR G60.  .getting. There twice as fast

Mk1 lhd diesel…….getting. There for half the cost

I had the same problem with my titntop what was happening was the right hand rear light cluster water was getting in to one of the lights filling it up till it drained through the hole where the bulb fits tried every thing to sea it, in the end i git a very small drill and drilled through the light cluster itself right in the bottom corner very hard to see it, so now the water drains out the hole no more soggy boot :D

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

to stop any leaks thro rear clusters i have always used a clear silecone sealant to seal between the light and the rear panel . i have not had a leak there for years on at least 6 mk 1 s .
