Washer Bottle Woes!
"I was prodding the fan belt whith the engine on, looking for free-play, then suddenly the screwdriver caught on the fan and made me knock the bottle off into the fan belt area. By the time I stopped the engine, there was a four inch hole through the bottle and god knows where the pipe went."
I then labelled him as a bufoon.
So today I embarked on the mighty quest to get a new one.
GSF in Poole? "God thats old, sorry matey".
Trents Breakers? "Nah mate, 8 years and under round 'ere".
VW? "We'll order one in, for about ?40"
Random breaker/recycler on the way home? "Come in, find anythign you want, its ?2."
Needless to say, the latter won. Couldn't find the proper one for my engine bay (Front left by headlight) but found one from an old mini cooper with similar dovetail fit and working pump.
?2, a cigarette, two coffees and a bit of fun with padded pliers and a rubber hammer, I now have a working screen-washer. All I had to do to match the bracket with the smaller dovetail was bring the metal guides on the engine bay in about 1/4 inch, and use a bit of black nasty tape to pack out the back of the bottle. Fitted the pump, filled 'er up, and sprayed. If only I didn't have the roof down at the time….
