Just had the car resprayed. Fitted new waistline clips and I can't get the trim to fasten to the clips. It may have something to do with the new paint making the channels the trim sit in a little less deep (or the other way around)
Anyway they just wont grip, any ideas? I was going to resort to trim tape that you use to fix the badges to the car?
will hopefully post some pics of it finished over the weekend
thanks

Yeah I bought new clips off ebay, and then even tried sone original VW clips - both had the same result. They just dont seem to grip, although it was fine before the respray.
What do you think about clips and trim tape? or maybe the thinner type trim like this: http://m.vwheritage.com/productDetails.cfm?iItemID=35813406
thanks

You need genuine "anti jealous owner" clips…. You know the ones - the ones that will withstand the test of 'if I just push my long fingernail under the middle trim, will it pop off?'
DjEv tried my trims in the car park in the hotel before we went to Germany…. The result was that he did manage to flick one off and I had to ride round the continent with tape holding the trim on!!
On my return I got the mastic gun out and put some dabs under the trim to hold it. The clips were genuine and I suspect - as you do, that the fresh paint doesn't let them grip as well.

I have manage to figure it out!
There are two types of clips, one is slightly bigger. The one I need is 155853585, however they are about a pound each from vw heritage!! Anyone know where I may get them cheaper? The ones on eBay are all the small size part starting with. 113 not a 155
Thanks

Vw heritage lists both types. The small ones are cheap and all over eBay, the larger ones are 1.30 each!!! Going to have to call vw parts tomorrow and see what they can do.

quick update on the side clips…
got the slightly larger ones from VW heritage. They are original VW parts and are a much better fit and hod the trip much more securely than the other slightly smaller types. You can tell the difference as the larger ones dont have the small red washer with them

afternoon all…
lost 1 of my waistline trims the other day, fortunately another member had a full set in very good condition available… (cheers rich hill)
my question is i have purchased new trim clip's from heritage (part no. 155853585) but they seem very loose in the hole in the wing..?
havent got to trying the trim as the clips seemed far to easy to pop out..?
have an idea where i might be going wrong but thought i would ask other members first….
cheers

I am sure you have already done this but you need to push in the centre of the clips to lock them in.
The clips don't work for the trim below the door, you need bigger ones for this trim
