vinyl roof fixing

im looking for any ideas or suggestions that anyone may have to try and fix my vinyl roof on my cabby, i would change the roof but it is only a minor tear which i think has been caused by the frame running against the roof when the roof is down, is this a common problem? is there an easy fix? thankyou in advance! heres a few pictures of the affected area below. also does anyone have any suggestions as to what size drop i should lower it?

Personally I wouldnt waste your money on a repair.

First of all I would find out whats caused the damage and sort that first.

I cant see what would cause it & im pretty sure its not a common fault.

Maybe PM 'chortle' hes the roof guru on here.

As for lowering it then its really up to your personal taste on how you want it to look.

Have a look through the project section to get some ideas from other peoples cars.

I would change it too.
A repair however well it's done is just that.
If the roof is old it could be coming to the end of it's useful  life.
The plasticisers are attacked by the environment and break down.

It's probable once you patch this, you could end up with another, keep paying out on repairs it soon might add up to the cost of a new roof at £40.00 a time.
Also water getting in that area can end up rusting the rear cable channel lip. If that happens your talking welding, paint etc.
Depending on how you feel about the car and if your intention is to keep it, then consider replacing what really needs changing i.e. Headliner if that's ripped or beyond cleaning, the interliner and top pads wear away and go thin, showing the frame arms through the top, instead of smooth contour.
Remember you CANNOT replace these once the new hood is in place.
Once it's done you won't need to touch it again during your ownership.
