Uh oh! Leaky doors!!

Was looking today to see where the dreaded water was coming from that was soaking my footwell carpets after last nights downpours, thinking it was going to inevitably be the roof/rather flimsy upper window seals… when lo and behold!  Twas the lower seals!  Those cheeky devils! It seems that the lower seals on the windows aren't really playing any more and are letting the water through.  Whch is in turn dripping through onto the carpets via gaps in doorcards etc…

You can actually hear it dripping inside the doors lol.  The worst one is the passenger side.

My question is, new doors or new seals?

Bearing in mind the doors are still fine as the car has been garage stored for the last few years.  Plus I have my weather cover on order as we speak.  I also have some dessicant on hand to dry up.

EDIT:  OK, so I've worked out the issue and its defo new scraper seals that I require, does anyone know where I can get some for less than £46 a pop??

its not the seals, they were never designed to be water tight. the problem is the plastic vapour barriers behind the door cards.  you can use pretty much any kind of plastic sheeting to replace them, but heavier duty is better. I used dust sheeting from a big pack from b&q and the like, the kind you chuck on the floor when doing some painting round the house.

good tip for you, cut a 2nd piece to half the height of the door and stick it along the lower half of the door, tuck the bottom edge inside the door, then stick your top piece on. this directs all the water straight into the bottom of the door, rather than allow it to pool along the base of the water barriers and seep thru.  waterproof duck tape is what i use to stick them down as its easy to work with and it will peel off again without any difficulty

i have exactly the same problem. I was told it was my scraper seals aswell, my seals are all perished away and assumed the water was just running down the window into the doors, the water was soaking the bottom of the door cards and pooling in the door pocket, but i might try what rubjonny has said.

yeah the perished scrapers wont help, but the underlying cause will be damaged or missing vapour barriers.

drove my cabby for a while in the winter without any scraper seals at all, no leaks inside the car at all due to well made vapour barriers ;)

Super, thanks for the excellent answers (as always).  When the water is directed to the bottom of the door, how does it drain?  I noticed a rubber stopper in the bottom of either door, could this be removed to help drainage?

This is my only car so its a daily driver and im going to be using it all year round, so im gonna check all my seals. I do need some new scraper seals though, i found them for the same amount about £46 each. seems a bit steep to me. so the same question…does anyone know of anywhere cheaper???

thanks

Lol same here Freeman, awesome motor for a daily run around!  I smile every time I drive the bastard lol.

My research has told me that Crazyquiff will have some in in september, for a bit less.

Unfortunately VW don't make em no more so its a case of waitin around or getting lucky.
