Trying to find correct genuine headlining?!!

Hi guys, i have an '83 golf gti in lhasa green, im trying to replace the knackered headling and ordered a Newton Commercial kit through VW Heritage.
The pattern on the one they supplied (which they promised was a close match) is different.

I may be being anal but my question is this - is my headlining standard and does anyone know where i can get material or kit to match?

That Newton kit you got via VW Heritage looks miles out.

I think any decent car upholsterer/trimmer would be able to point you in the right direction.

You headlining looks very similar to the vinyl on my seat backs. When I had my seats done I looked through a huge set of vinyl and other material samples to get the right match.  This was at http://www.bernardnewbury.co.uk/, I'm pretty sure he would have a good match or know where to get one.  I wouldn't expect to get a 'kit' though, more likely just raw material or fully fitted headlining.

Yeah agree, that kit is not right.

tbh I'm surprised as generally Newton use genuine match materials. It may be worth a call to VWH or Newton if you don't get any joy to check.

Have you taken it right out of the packaging to check they've sent you the right one?

I got my kit from heritage today for a 4 door with a sunroof and i was supplied with the correct leatherette it looks like the original stuff but in black. ( i have a brown interior) The stuff you pictured there is nothing like the material i received. Do you know what the chrome strip is for?

Hi guys

The chrome strip if for cutting up and using as clips to keep the lining in place when you are glueing it in. It details this in the fitting instructions included in the kit.

I have checked out the headlinings we have in stock here from Newtons.

The Pillars are a different material from the rest of the headlining. I then went and check the mk1 Golf and mk1 Jetta we have that live here to check them as they both have original headliners in. On their originals the main headlining piece is a different grain of material to the Pillar pieces.

In the original pic above thats the same as the pillar pieces int he kit so i am gussing that pic was taken was of a pillar??

These are all that is available now the originals are obsolete. They are a clsoe match and having seen one fitted in a mk1 they look really good when in.
