Tear in hood - new hood? or repair?

Hi All,

1987 1.8 Clipper with original hood; I have a small tear that is slowly getting worse. Can I repair this? or slow it down somehow? Or do I need a new hood?

Why leave it? it's only going to get worse and make the car look untidy and unloved.
If it was my car I would replace it mate.
I did mine and haven't looked back.

I'd replace it mate. Mine is stuffed and I hate it. As above the car looks unloved and a mess.

I got mine for about £100. Haven't been able to fit it due to the car having unplanned restoration work. bummed out.

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

cut a round hole at the end of the tear to help prevent it spreading then glue a strip of vynal to cover the gap. not going to look mint again unless you replace the hood tho

I'd replace it. Only going to get worse and while a vinyl patch will hold it for a while it'll soon go again with all the folding.

Have a go at doing it yourself. Hubby did mine using the how to guide on here and it looked fab. Still water tight and tidy 4 years on.
