Sunroof

Hi all,

Im new to this site and Mk1 golfs.
I have just got a GTI that im going to restore, the roof has some rust and it also has a non standerd sunroof I think, its a cavas fold back thing. I want to know if its possable to replace the roof completely?

PS can I just say how impressed I am with this site and the community It seems to have.

The whole skin can be replaced but make sure you find a skilled welder as the roof panel can distort being such a large panel. Best not to chop it at the pillars (could weaken the car too much). I'm looking to get it done at some point. Think I'll go with a non-sunroof panel to prevent any more rust problems in the future.

The rust is just above the door window so I think a may have to cut it at the pillers I will post some pics when I get it closer to home.
