Sunroof?

Hi folks,

Does anyone know if the Mk2 Golf mechanism will fit in my Mk1? I have got a panel from a mk2 as I know these are the same but will the mechanism fit too or will I have to keep my tired original one? :dontknow:

Hi, probably not a lot of help, but I fitted a Scirocco Mk2 tilt/slide to my Mk1 Golf to replace its slide only sunroof, which had a rusty panel.
I messed about with it for ages, taking the effing thing in and out, but have never been able to get the tilt/slide to slide back properly, although it does tilt OK. Finally I gave up and accept that it only tilts, and don't bother trying to slide it back!
I think they are all the same size panel, but not sure about the rest - look forward to the answers you get on this!

I knew bout the tilt and slide thing but thought that the best fir for that mech was from a an audi coupe, but mite be wrong?!

I'm sure I'll find out soon enough, but if anyone else has any ideas…? :dontknow:

early audi 80 saloon as far as i know. just bought tilt/slide from scirocco off mk1jim. hoping to make tilt and slide work but may end up with what oldfart has.  which if i can tilt i am not bothererd about sliding.time will tell. have not got it yet so cannot play yet.

I fitted a T n S to my Campaign, don't know what the donor was, but it slide back and forth ok, but the tilt bit was a problem, it only tilted about 5mm, so there wasn't a lot of point keeping it in. I'm sure its possible to sort, but I couldn't see any reasons why the upward movement was limited. Consequently the sunroof and ancillarys are now for sale :-)

picked up sunroof last night. fitting this weekend hopefully.famous last words!looks good will see how it goes.

unfortunatly had to work all day today. busy tomorrow with other stuff have to work monday so will have to keep you posted. mk1 restoration seems to have me working more hours than i have ever done! one day i hope it will be finished and looking good!

I seem to be in a pretty similar situation with my project! The end date and maybe a finished car  looks like a distant dream at the moment! Anyway, keep me posted dude, take it easy 8)
