sunroof drainage holes

Hello

Ive been having problems with water coming into the passenger side foot  well The water seems to be comming in around the bonnet release handle . the screen surround and scuttle appear absolutely sound along with the rubber grommet for the release cable. However there appear to be no rubber pipes in the sunroof drainage holes :o .Has anybody had to replace theirs at any point if so please let me know

I've had water coming in through here also.  It gets on the bonnet release cable and then runs into the car.  Make sure the cable is tucked under the wing flange and/or pup a tie wrap aroung it near the grommet - the water will go down the tie wrap rather than into the car.

To attach sunroof drain pipes you'll need to remove the headlining partly  :(

My brothers old Mk1 suffered from water running along cables through the bulkhead.
Took us age to work out what was happening!

As Crazy said, try and ensure all wires/cables route downwards slightly as they go into the engine bay, alternatively do the tie wrap thing…

Thanks for the help chaps.I may well have disturbed something fixing my reversing light switch,Ive bunged up all the gromets with silicone and intend to put cable ties around the bonnet release cable. Am i imagining things or can you buy leak detectors? The monkey in Halfrauds looked at me like i was mad when i asked, im sure someone  here can enlighten me.

I think the leak detector is you!
Lie upside down in the passgenger seat so that your head is in the footwell.
Get someone else to spray a hosepipe over the front of the car untill you see where the water is coming from!

The other culprit is often the radio aerial cable. They never seem to be long enough and people often run them thru the scuttle drain hole/tubes directing water straight into the car.

Talking about the drain holes check they are not blocked with leafs etc.

Mine is leaking same place but on the drivers side. All drain holes are clear, scuttle that side is ok and sunroof drain ok so not sure the cause yet.

Might be first job on the list when I strip the ol' gal this summer.

You can trace leaks by removing carpets and trim - covering the exposed metal with flour (so it is uniformly covered) then pouring water over the outside of the car - as the leak starts it will make a track in the flour and expose the painted metal underneat - you can then just trace it back to where it is coming in.
