Sun roof stuck

As the topic says my sunroof is stuck, and one of the back corners has dropped slightly.
From the feel of it i think something has broken that lifts and moves the sunroof.
How can you get at the mechanism will I have to remove the headlining?

try pushing the roof down and back by hand while a helper teases the handle round. you only need to open it just enough that you can unclip the interior trim panel and push it back into the roof space, once you do that all the fixings that hold the panel to the sliders are revealed. undo those and take the panel out, then you can inspect the sliders to see what parts need replacing. mk2 golf roof parts will fit mk1, however you may need to change the whole lot as the early parts can differ I'm told.

scirocco a good donor too as then you get a tilt+slide roof

Cheers for that will give it a go at the weekend, it already has a tilt and slide its a 1983 campaign.
Was this standard on them?

standard is slide only, only scirocco and audi got tilt + slide so its already been swapped if so! the good news is its a nice upgrade, bad news is harder to get spares for if a part is broken!
