stiffness!

stiffness!

iv got a real nasty rot patch on my tailgate and some real big patches of rust on bonnet so i was looking to replace them and on ebay there is a fella selling fibreglass replacements.

this sounds good i think as reducing the weight of the car but will it affect the stiffness of the car as i would be replacing metal for plastic/glass?

And if so could this be fixed with an anti-roll bar kit?

Also what is the general thought of fibreglass parts? cool or not cool.

cheers guys and gals

I would guess that the fibre glass would be heavier than the steel, plus it would never look as straight as a metal one.

There would be no worries with effecting the stiffness as there not integral body parts.

The fibreglass bonnets claim to be about 8kg lighter than the steel ones?  :?

I wouldn't buy fibreglass panels, they never look right. If you wait your bound to find good second hand genuine VW steel ones.
