I am restoring a golf and I have a doner car but the steering wheel does not fit there are less spines on the doner car. Where they made with diffrent sizes if so has any one got one with more spines that they can sell?

Thanks

later cabs and mk2's had larger splines than the mk1.

Its a 1981 I may have to find a wheel from a mk2 to try but I dont think its been changed due to the fact that the sheer off bolts are still there.

I think you'll fine the column itself on both cars has the same amount of splines/diameter. On the one with the larger diameter there'll be an adapter fitted to allow the column to take the later type steering wheel.

If it has this can it be removed and how do you tell if there is one on there? Its only around 1/16"  bigger not much room for an adaptor.

I think all mk1 columns have the same amount of splines but not 100% sure. It looks as thought there are 2 adapters availabe to take different later steering wheels. These were listed under the cabrio part of ETKA…

Part number…………….Chassis code………..Diameter
191 419 514 A ……….. >> 15-K-022 258…..26mm
191 419 514……………15-K-022 259>>…….45mm

There were no adapters listed under hatchback cars but I know that the adapters cab be used on them.
