rear light rubbers maby thats wat is was on are 16valve but it was a lot easyer to trace cause its gutted of furnishings and on the golf ive got now its under the dash running in through the window rubber all i did was stick sum silicon under the frnt  window seal ,…… well thats my trouble …so maby it could be that or it could be sun roof

Loads of places to check: door seals, front window seal in the corners, rear lights, door membrains, look for wires going into the car without a grommet i.e ariel wire.

A good way to trace where its coming from is use some talcum powder the water will leave a mark where it has run from then you can hoover it up and fix the leak :)

Great tip with the talc Mr_GTI…I'll use that one.

The seals look pretty new apart from the top of the drivers door… I think I'll get some new ones of those.

Where can I buy new seals?

Any tips for drying carpets? :dontknow:

I knew it would test her moving to sunny Huddersfield!

There's always the obvious test - the 'hose' test. You could sit in the car and someone directs a hose at various places, etc. I have the same problems, the rear mat has a felt underside which seems to trap and never release the water. It took around 3 days to dry out, in the house with the central heating on. The car, had some water in it which was cleaned up but it never dried out on its own, despite my best efforts. So yesterday evening, I left a fan heater in it for a couple of hours, with the front window ajar, and its dried out nicely.

I suspect my leak initiated from the Kamei spoiler fitted above the rear screen. It has clips which interfere with the tailgate glass rubber.

Hey Kins thanks , just putting a bit of humour in to your thread .

Have you found the leak yet ? My Golf had a leak from the heater matrix and caused all the problems you have is it okay ? Look under the bonnet and make sure all chassis leg holes are sealed [especially at the rear ] , some only have painted gaffer tape over them . This is a direct route to under the carpet . Dont forget to dry the sound deadning felt under the carpet or you will promote unseen rusting

Cheers mate Chudd….

Dont forget to check you drain tubes at each side of the scuttle area!

Ref the door/window seals you can buy form VW still - the hockey stick shaped ones that is.(Or go to scrappy and use the insie one from the other side as shouldn't be too worn.)

Cheers
