Spraying my bonnet - Problem with my gun - Advice Needed

So I've decided to tackle the lacquer lift on the bonnet this side of christmas…

I've bought a 2nd hand devilbiss gun off ebay and happy to say its sooo much better then the cheapy sealey gun i had….no more orange peel city (well less)..

The only problem i seem to have (i'm currently on the primer stage) is that the gun pulses?  I've turned the pressure up, this hasn't cured it but has at least created a more frequent pattern…

Any paint spraying experts here?

Why does my gun pulse?

the gun pulses because of your compresor it pulses in time with the motor, if you have a pressue regulater on the gun turn it down not up, youl find it more controlable at low presure at the fan should even out also, lokk at the fan of spay coming out as your turning the regulater and yol see it change to even then more at top and bottom of the fan than the middle as the air presure get higher, do this it to the air not whilst painting

You need to service it....it is normally the seal between the gun body and the baffle that needs replacing or needs stripping down and cleaning, when replacing the fluid tip, make sure it is done up super tight....

Oh...btw If your getting too much peal....make sure your paint is correctly thinned or the pressure of the gun is up high enough...

I've got a Devilbiss JGA and as Shamstar says, if the fluid tip is not tight they pulse. I sometimes put a drop of oil on a rag, and I mean a drop, and wipe the threads with it lightly before tightening it. It just takes the dryness off and stops them binding when they've been cleaned with thinners.

Just to give you all an update, I carried out a simple strip and clean....then worked on practice sprays and adjusting gun settings as I went, fixed the pulsing, just left with a little spilt spray but not too serious.....biggest issue was wrong colour..DOH..
