Soggy Boot!!!!!!

After the last fews days of heavy rain I opened my hatch to find alot of water droplets all over the boot & the carpet soaked.
I can't however see any obvious signs of entry…..any ideas anyone???

Is the car parked on the flat? is the parcel shelf wet? Its also prone to condensation in the boot if not to careful…It most likely could be the tailgate rubber seal around the boot edge, some times they tear/go in to a hole or the rain passes over it if it is crimped or squashed. Also when the tailgate is open you can see there are two rubber sleaves covering the cable for the wiper motor  at the top by the hinges,if these are damaged or missing…

If you have been driving it can be the number plate lights not seating onto the body. It could be the rear lamps loose or incorrectly fitted drawing in water or even if your number plate is screw fixed, those holes too.  Or a combination of these. One last place is a crack in the rear screen rubber seal or maybe a bubble of rust lifting it up??
(Not implying you have a rusty car though  )

My tailgate Window seal leaks.

The rubber boot seal would have to very bad to leak as it sit's on a metal ridge which stops water.

Those two rubber seals in which the electrical wire go are tricky! I've never done it but how would you change them? is there a connector inside them?

One good way of checking leaks is to seal with vaseline were you the think the leak is, if it stops you have found it and can sort it properly.

My old car had gone bad where the stupid front screen wind deflectors were and vaseline sorted that.

And what else are you going to do with Vaseline anway?

the big boot seat sits on metal but can split with corrossion only a tiny bit it then under force when driving sucks in water. I had that once and  my girlfriend sat in the back and watched for water when griving it was coming in in a thin but steady stream that stopped when the car did…

still sorted that and all was dry again.. :D
