Sill Replacement on a GTI cabriolet, advice needed please

Hi, I am Simon from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear. I am a VW nut and already have an 11 window 1963 split screen, 08 plate golf diesel and a 2010 tiguan R line. I recently did a  nut and bolt resto on a 1973 1303s beetle also. I have joined the site because I am thinking of buying a 1985 GTi convertible. Trouble is the sills and rear panel below the near side light are shot as well as the door bottoms. I suppose I want to ask how big a job the sill replacement is and what the BBT repair panels are like? I am doing a full resto on my splitty with all new chassis sections and replacement sills on that, so I am not scared of a bit of welding. Also is 1 grand ok for a tired example with a good roof? Engine seems ok, but body will need some TLC!!

if you have done all that work on other vw then the sill will be simple

the repair sections from bbt are as good as anywhere
