Side Trims fixings (clips)
Ive recently bought some replacemnet side trims for my 91 Sportline.
I also got some fixing clips from ebay but they dont seem to hold the trim on. They seem to pop off after a couple of minutes.
Can anyone advise where they have got some fixings from before if they have worked?
I dont wanna lose some trims cos it took me ages to find them !!
Cheers

I've found the clips to be a problem too. The profile of them runs the opposite way to the original clips.
I had to file some of mine to get a good fit, and also reused some of the old clips, swapping the centre pin and gasket over from the new clips.
VW don't stock them anymore and I bought 2 sets of these clips from 2 suppliers (BNB components and Bresco) in the hope that 1 set would be the same as the originals.

You can get them from GSF as well
I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines

Just done a quick pic to try to explain the problem I had with the clips.
The new clips are drawn on the left, originals on the right. The wider point that holds the trim is much further in on the new clips meaning you have to push much further on the get a good hold. I filed mine a bit to make it easier to get the trims on, some still wouldn't grip and so for those I re-used the good condition old clips.

I need a new set too. Can someone point me in the right direction of decent strips that fit and the fixing clips. I don't want any hassle or to be left driving around with no strips whilst the OH threatens to use the likes of Gripfill or silicon sealant.
I had looked on ebay but obviously was typing in the wrong thing. :redfaced:

But mine look nothing like those youve drawn. The ones ive bought are like a cross.

The drawing is a side view of the clips, the red line being the gasket that sits against the body. This is what they look like. My drawing is a bit crap!
CQ does seem to stock 2 alternative types for hatchback and cabriolet but 63p each is quite expensive! CQ Rich, if you read this can you comment on the differences between the clips you stock.
