Series 1 VIN number mystery??Solved :)

Just found a ser 1 in a barn going for a good price but i cant find any VIN on the bodyshell at all.
I`v never had a ser 1 before so did they stamp the shell somewhere completely different to the ser 2?

Any help would gladly appreciated as i`d love to buy this car :)

Cheers

Thanks Paul.

Would that be on the turret itself you mean?

Theres a chassis number on the left hand turret (from the front) and a vin plate on the slam panel to the left of the bonnet catch on my '80 s1.

Are there any documents? Sounds very dodgy.

Yes there is a V5 and its defo a ser 1 gti but like i said no identification marks.
I`ll have another look tomorrow but will pass on it if i cant find anything. Its a shame as the shell is in excellent order.
