Seat back won't go up or down, help please!

As title says my drivers seat back won't go up or down and I was hoping that maybe someone would have some on advice on this.

Hopefully it's fixable.

It's a mk2 leather interior, fitted in a mk1 cabby.

Thanks for that chortle but it's the reclining part of the seat that is not moving, I think that makes sense, I'm doing a pretty bad job of explaining it.

The cog on the side turns freely if you know what I mean, as opposed to reclining the back of the seat in conjunction with the direction it's turned.

take the cog off first, might just be its ovaled/cracked and so can no longer grip the reclining mech. on mine it was loose but still worked, i solved it by cluing in a small strip of thin metal to tighten it up a bit. you'll see when you look anyway
