Rust Remedy, What do you use?

Righto folks, found some very surface rust on the inside roof panel, I want to clean it off, and treat the rust, so that it wont come back! Only thing i've been using recently is Kurust, while doing a few jobs on my grandads T25, but in the areas we've used it, the rust has came back. So I was wondering what people on here have been using, and have had the most luck with. Cheers in advance boys and girls  :)

I use Hammerite for parts you can remove as it is a solution one mixes up with water and leaves the item in for 12 hrs, and it works well.
As for treatments that need to be applied i'm struggling, Jenolite was not bad.

Any bodywork rust can work from the underside of the finish so treating from the outside is a waste of time and should be cut out and replaced.

I've used Kurust (hammerite product I think) on minor rusty scabs, seems to have killed it off etc but not sure how it'd work on larger areas.
Chris

I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines :o

I've not used their products but have heard nothing but good things about Bilt Hamber Laboratories.

Rust removal?

An Angle grinder...

Agreed, Angle grinder with linishing disc (flapper), rust treatment then etch primer followed by paint. Never truly trusted alot of these rust cures other than grinding it back or cutting it out and replacing it with new steel.

I have found that phosphoric ( spelling? ) acid is good, iirc it is the basis of Jenolite but works much quicker….. probably stronger than 'watered down' Jenolite!!
It forms iron phosphate which is the black colour on bare rusty metal, then usual primer and paint for best long term results.

umm, not sure, I got my supply ) about a litre) over 20 years ago !! I use it so irregularly now as I've been lucky to have galvanised Audis for most of that time !

You could try a chemicals wholesaler ?? see if they would sell you a liter or two.
I also understand that it is often a major ingredient in various toilet cleansers.( seriously…. the Editor of VW AUdi Car mag used it years ago when he had a 914)
