Rover Seats

I have the chance of a set of immaculate half leather seats (front and rear) from an old shape Rover 200. They look like Golf Rallye recaros.

Does any one know if they can be made to fit a Cabriolet and can they be made to tilt forward. Even if it means fitting the squabs to VW frames. They really are immaculate and only ?60 so I do not want to pass them by if they can be made to work.

Thanks for any responses.

Managed to get a old shape rover 200 front bumoer onto a mk1 years ago.

If you swap the subframes the front seats should fit, the back seats would be wider than the mk1's i would have thought, might be asble to make them fit.

At ?60 you cany go wrong really

Hey X5PEA - What were you doing in Hamilton today? I thought you were an Edinburgh lad. As soon as I saw the big wheels on a black X5, I was suspicious, then your number plate blew your cover completely.

Anyway I decided against the Rover jobbies as they are from a 4 door and I can't be arsed trying to make them tilt as well as everything else. Just before I saw you today I went to a scrappie and bought some Mark 3 seats for my wife's cabbie. Don't suppose you have some tips for making them fit. I believe that I can either modify the front Mk3 subframes or alternatively use the Mk3 squabs and backs on the Mk1 frames.

I think that it will have to be further trial and error for the rear bench. Any tips appreciated.

Hey dude, my mrs thoght i was a complete looooooser getting recogined for another Golf geek as see put it….

Re the seats, u would use the mk1 subframes, in the past i have fitted aftermarket and non vw seats to the mk1 and have found fitting the seat to the mk1 subframe easier than playing about with cuting and welding ect.

No too sure how safe a cut and welded subframe would work, many years ago i managed to make the std mk1 frame into a tilt frame to accomodate aftermarket bucket seats, that was a job

I'm currently designing some custom bases to do just this - effing difficult!

Oh - Mk3 seats are usually fitted by cutting off the runners at the back and re welding them slightly closer together. Needs to be done well though or the seat won't sit straight.

If my wife called me a Golf geek I would smack her bum. Thanks for the tips mate and the best of luck with your own project.
