Resilvering Badges.

Anyone tried this? I remember an old post but can't find it.

I was thinking of dipping them in hot wax, waiting for it to harden, then sand the wax off so the painted face is exposed.

Then spray.

Then put in how water to remove the wax mask.

Other ideas?

And what silver, it needs to be really chromey.

not sure on the silver but think that wax idea is the best I've heard!

was thinking about restoring mine and putting them on, let us know how it goes with the wax

One way is to source some thin chrome film with an adhesive backing.  Place over the badge and press down.  You should see the outline of the raised areas so with a scalpel (or similar) cut around and hey presto!  But make sure you haven't got the shakes.
Not sure how long this would last though.

I think the old post was on the old form and got lost in translation. Got a feeling it was by woza but could be wrong?

I think he used some brush on masking stuff from an art shop on the black bits, then he sprayed the badges with chrome plasticote or similar. He then peeled away the mask.

The results were great!

I painted faded letters on an old set with some Tamiya silver acrylic paint. As long as you don't lash it on too thick then no brush marks - looked ok for a trial and I sold them on ebay for a fair price!

Only thing I would have changed would have been to spray paint the faded black plastic first with black paint (didn't look so bad until I painted the silver on!)

If you have the patience to mask then spray the silver too.

Instead of wax how about using Swarfega......I did it once when spraying a wheel, covered the tyre with Swarfega using a brush, then washed the stuff off afterwards.....came out brilliant - cleaned the tyres at the same time !!

I used to work in plastics game too - and a sister company made these badges - if only I knew back then I would have grabbed a box load of them!
