replacement arches on mk1 GTI and rear wiper arm setting

Hi everyone, what are pattern wheel arches like? ie euro car part ones? also my rear wiper arm parks horizontaly not vertically any ideas on how to rectify this?

Wiper arm mechanism  may have been modified somewhere to park like this, an old custom trick but i cannot say of the top of my head what may have been done.
