Removing carpet, seats etc. Damp carpets.

Hi,

Firstly hello to everyone, bought my first mk1 golf GTI '83 in mars red. I believe I have picked up a really solid example (had a friend from here check all the common areas for decay) So i can finally join in on all this fun!

as a precautionary measure I want to replace the sound deadening underneath the carpet that has basically started to rot.  I'm pretty sure it's not rusting but I'd like to stop this and renew it all, the carpet is fine so a good clean and dry will do for that!

Is there anything I need to know, is there only the sound deadening and carpet? Also does the deadening need gluing down? With anything in particular?

What do I need to remove to get the carpet out?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm a newbie so go easy!  :D

Thanks

 Martin

dont really know wat to look for rust wise mate except ive heard that the fuel filler neck is quite common for rust but i do know that if uve bought a new sound deadening kit then it does need glueing, i use just a spray adhesive on mine (the stuff they use on carpets u can get it from b&q) other than that ent sure, someone on here should point u in the right direction lol they are pretty good for that on this site
