I assume this is about the loop handle on the passengers side for the rear seat, left and right stuff got me confused :?

some pics below as seen from the rear so you can see the mechanism, one with the boot lever in and one with it out.
hope that helps.

what have you on the drivers side of the rear seat holding it back i don't have any locking mech theirs at all so it only catchs on one side the passenger side your pics only show one side the passenger side like mine should there be a mech like that one on the other side
or put it another way there is no inter lock between the passenger side release and the drivers side

I will see if I can get a picture of the drivers side this weekend, if the weather is fine and dandy.

that in the pics is the security lock to stop people climbing in the car and folding the seats down if you park it with hood open. to pull the seats you have to open the boot and pull the knob to release it.

the seat locks to the car with 2 metal hooks on the back of the seat into square holes in the body, make sure both hooks are there and they move when you tug the rubber loop.  if its not lockign down adjust the rubber buffers behind the seat to adjust the tension on the seat when its locked down, if too tight it wont catch, if too loose it will rattle all over the place. also if not ajusted properly the boot lock function wont work right and you wont be able to fold the seat even if its released

that kind of makes sense Mr rubjonny  so all ive got to do is to adjust the drivers side hook to locate and lock into the squareish cutout in the boot.

pics as promissed in case needed.

The clip on the drivers side is just self sprung, so moves out the way when then seta is pulled back. If its not making contact with teh square hole as stated try adjusting the rubber bummper also in one of the pics. If you need any more pics, dif angles etc just shout.
