Re-trimming door cards

Contemplating re-trimming my own door cards, has anyone done this? I currently have a set of blue door cards front & rear and the interior is going to end up a different colour. Just wondering if anyones attempted this and how well it went? Thinking of picking up some fabric off ebay, using the existing material as a template and then seeing how it looks.

ive thought about doing this too, i was thinking of borrowing my mate sowing machine and using colour thread to replicate the patterns, then possibly sowing some foam panels on the back to give it some depth..

I was thinking of doing the above too, i would want my door cards to have the same stitching, or at least similar, because i think they look odd just plan bare black

I'm not sure if I'd want them just a solid colour or not. I think I'd struggle to copy the stitching. I'm tempted to just sell them and buy some black ones but I don't think it'd be as satisfying.

im probably going to make some up from scratch and try it with them, if they look naff i wont bother and stick with my original ones!
