rattling roof of doom...

Having aquired a rather nice GTi cabriolet I have noticed a rattling coming from whete the roof rests against the roll bar. Iknow it is possible to adjust this, but have no idea how and want to sort it out before too much damage is done. Can anyone recommend someone in the Lancaster area that can do this without ripping me off? or alternativly if it is a really quick and easy job, give me instructions on how to have a stab myself.

Thanking you all for your time ,     Marty

hiya mate
have a look thro this guide on hood replacement, it might help diagnose your rattle, and explain how the hood system works

Right, see the two hook bolts that hold the roof down, they should give a bit of resistance when you clip down the roof. if these are loose they can cause the roof to rattle. If not, half open the hood and can see inside at the mid section, make sure nothings loose in there… very rare but possible.

Other causes can be the door tops, the glass rattles against the roll bar, this is yet again an easy fix but for the life of me I can't mind the proceedure… something to do with the window runner at the front. I'll go do me homework!

Many thanks,  have checked as well as I can and all seems well… except as  I say the roof rattles against the roll bar. I have a Haynes manual which mentions how to tighten up the mechanism, but my roof frame seems to differ slightly to the one illustrated, so is not applicable. I guess I shall bite the bullet and try to find someone to diagnose the problem.

thanks for your help.  M
