Polycarbonate windows?

Where can I get polycarbonate windows for a MK1 golf GTI? :dontknow:

Does anyone know if you can buy smoked/tinted polycarbonate windows?

Where is the best place to buy window seals?

Was thinking of going down the light weight route  . What do you think?

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

Poly windows save a lot of weight but do not wind up and down so can be a right pain in a daily drive (if you have to swipe a car park pass for work or something).
Not too sure where the best place to get them from would be but try rally type places such as Rally design or peter Lloyd rallying. If they don't sell them, they might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the post AL_Mk1

I actually managed to source a supplier

http://www.plastics4performance.co.uk/

Found their ad in retro cars and they are based in Bolton so not far from me. I'm going to make some enquiries. :)

How come they dontslide up and down, is is because they will scratch easy? :dontknow:

They do a nice Bronze tint which I think would look cool on a black car.  8)  Think I'll pass on the sliders though - a bit too raw!

In addition to that I want to fit fibreglass hatch, wings and bonnet.
Need to get that power to weight figure up for track days!
The projects now leaning towards standard look but hidden mods. Stealth! 8)

Possibly cos they will scratch but I think it is more to do with the fact that the sheet that is used to make them is flat and the windo has a curve. It there for would not runn in the runners properly and not sit right at the top?!? Plus most of them have the little slide windows like the one in your picture - there is no way that would go past the seals…

I thought that those prices were per window for a minute  8O
If that is for a set of four sides and a rear, that is really good!

You'll have to let me know what they are like if you go for them. I could do with a set of those for mine!

Weight saving is the key - you don't want light (in weight!) plastic windows and a heavy winding mechanism!

Stay clear of perspex as will scratch, polycarb can too but more durable. Lexan would be better still but I've not seen auto windows in lexan before.
