Pierburg carb 1.8 running fault

Hi everyone I'm having a serious running problem with my 1.8 clipper. It manages about 1 mile before it splutters and cuts out, then if Iwait 20 secounds and pump the throttle it splutters on for another mile if I'm lucky.
I've changed plugs, leads, dissy cap, coil, ignition module and fitted a secound hand carb (ebay) but had to swap some of the carb ancilleries over, eg. a small vac pot on the right hand rear, a water valve on the front, BUT STILL HAVE THE FAULT.
HELP!!!!

Have you checked the fuel pump?

HI THANKS FOR THE REPLY, IT LOOKS A NEW PUMP AND I CAN SEE FUEL RUNNING THROUGH THE RETURN, AND I CAN SEE FUEL PUMP IN WHEN I MANUALLY OPERATE THE THROTTLE.

Re: Pierburg carb 1.8 running fault

have you checked the filler neck? if newish is the tank full of rusty metal from the previou filler neck? the way to check the tank is to remove the rear seat and remove  the inspection plate to gain access to the sender unit. if you take this out you will be able to check the fuel pick up pipe and also the tank. if it has rust in then it's tank off and clean out

Check that the dogdey fuel regulator/external float chamber thingy isn't full of sediment and that the top isn't loose (sucking in air).

You will want to check the rubbish autochoke thing isn't broke either.

If I were you I'd be on the hunt for a twin choke down draft weber replacement!
