Pics and plans for making your own chassis tilter

I know a few people have shown pics as part of their Mk1 restos of various chassis frames and the like for more major restoration, so thought this link might be of interest:

http://www.pape.ws/all…e/Z-Car_Stuff/Rotisserie/

Its a whole set of pictures of various chassis "rotisseries" or spits. The idea is you fit your bodyshell to one of these and can rotate it through 360 degrees. Makes for superb access to the underside of your car, especially if you have any welding work to do, or need to work on the underside.

Possibly also useful for when it comes to painting the shell for access to those awkward areas?

The site also has a few plans for different designs, and if you can weld then it looks fairly cheap in terms of materials, and certainly far cheaper than buying a ready made one!

I'm finally getting round to ordering my MIG and associated gear and this will be one of the first things I try my hand at fabbing up. Should make cleaning up the underside of the car far easier as well as offering good access.

Hope its of use to someone - I've been looking for pics and plans for this type of thing for a while and this is by far the best collection I have found.

Cheers,

I think one of the pics in there uses exactly that - two engine stands with some home made bumper mounting racks  :D .

That was the good thing about the link - lots of pictures of what other people have done as well as details and plans for a couple of them - some good research by the guy that put it all together.

Cheers,

Hi that?s what I am doing, using 2 engine stands, with two old bumpers.  Its good, makes it easier to work. Once I have done with the under side I can use the engine stand for rebuilding my engine.

When I get a chance I?ll upload the pics I?ve been taking while working on my car

i built mine with a few lengths of 50mm 3mm wall box section.

Copied a few ideas of t'internet.  My shell has been on it for about a year with no hassle at all - just didnt want to bother with casters - bit short of head room!

anyone want photos - let me know…

?10K down - almost gave in! 95% done!!!!!
