Part number required please.

Could anyone assist me with this?

1983 Golf GTI under the dash their are three compartments to put things in. On the middle one, directly above the centre console, the bottom of the dash has two large holes which should have circular plastic covers. Anyone know the part number for these?

Just can't locate it on the VW parts CD - either that or I am going blind.  :roll:

If I'm looking at the right part, it's 172 857 943 'Cover'

Thats the right part.. but add 01C onto the end

As a matter of interest, does anyone know why these two holes exist in the first place?

They don't exist in the LHD dash, I presume (the 172… part number of the covers means that it's a RHD-only part)

Is it holes for cable etc for air con units? Isn't that the area where the contorl panel sits?

Mmmm, forgot about the mono-speaker (it's been years since I saw one still in position), but two large holes seems like overkill for the speaker involved.

(maybe they were allowing for an unpgrade to gold, oxygen-free cable for hearing all the detail in the sound-effects on "The Archers" on Radio 4 LW    )

Just removed the mono speaker from here on mine!
