panel repair; sill

hey, i'm totally new to repairing panels (cutting them out and welding new parts on).
this is the drivers side sill:

just needs two little patches repairing (ones about a 50p size, the other about a pea size), should i get a new whole sill or just cut them out^^ and put a 'bit' in??
cheers, jimmy

hav you access to a welder and have you done much welding?
hav you had a good look at the rest of the sill, look rite under the sill and onto the floor pan where the two meet, i found on my mk1 that just at the inside of the join there were a couple of holes as well, the best way to find thm is with a trusty screw driver, it all drpends on how far you wan to go, just a quick patch up or get rid of all the rust.

if it was me id buff the paint inbetween the patches to see how fat the rust goes, if it is just what you can see in the pic then i would cut out the rusty sections and make new replacement patches and weld them in. by the looks of things you will need to cut away at the top of the sill to get rid of the rust so your patches will be i a L shape.

it all depends on what the rest of the sill is like, it is a bit trickyer to patch but much less work

IF that's the only rusty areas, then sure just cut & butt a repair in. But I suspect there's a whole lot more lurking…..
