Outer rear arch repairs Lap joints or butt joints???

I have only ever seen mk1 golf outer rear arches put on using a butt joint but my rear arches have been put on using lap joints…everything looks spot on from the outside and it looks like the arches will need very little filler but I just don't like it especially as the metal overlap can be seen from the inside.

What are people opinions on lap joints vs butt joints?? does it make any difference ie catch moisture?? etc etc…
What do you people think???

seam seal it first, then wax. i used por patch for sealing the joints on my cabby, then por 15 as an undercoat. top stuff
