One leaking sunroof!!! WELDED SHUT! (drastic!)

Well i think this might be a new one for some of us!!

Water was slowly killing my mk1,so it was time for drastic action.
I have had my sunroof plated and welded shut!! Bit drastic i know!! But it's done and and it looks ok! :banghead:

Thing is i have to remove the whole tray inside that holds the sliding roof.
Any ideas on how to do this? And will i need to strengthen the roof in anyway after the tray is out? :dontknow:
Where do i get a new roof lining???  :dontknow:
Thanks. Hope someone has some idea on this!

If you join the club as a member, this entitles you do a discount at Newton Commercial. At the price of a new headlining, it may work out better off with the discount!

The sunroof tray is welded to the roof skin around the aperture and via five other brakets to the upper side/front members. You need to drill out spot welds around the aperture which might be hard to get at now the roof is patched up. The sunroof tray does add strength to the roof in place of that provided by crossmembers in non-sunroof models, might best left in place. Have you got any pics of what the tray is like and how the roof was welded up, be interested to see.
