Offside rear wheel arch liner question

Hi,

Is there a plastic guard meant to be in the arch to stop all the muck being thrown up to the top of the filler neck or is the only guard in the arch the one in front of thi, the one that covers the hole where the fuel pipe goes through?

Mines does not hae one covering the filler neck area.

If it is meant to be there, does anybody have a spare one?

cheers

Al

From memory mate that cover is only half the inner arch, over the fuel pipes where they come through the hole in the arch

Crazyquiff can probably sort you one out.

Check also here - http://www.wagenstad.com/index.php for reference as it's like an online ETKA

cheers for that, is anybody else of the same opinion.

I have the front half but thought there was maybe one, even from a later mk1, that stopped all the **** going up to the top of the filler neck.

If there is not one, I think I might make one.

Just about there with this god dam easy project!!!!!!!

Thanks again.

As Andy has said there was only a half shield in there

yes they only cover half, Thats why the fuel filler necks and surrounding area go rusty.
All the muck gets up there and sticks.
I power washed mine out and the muck came out.
Got some cloths out and dried it all down.
Eventually got the shutz gun and under seal up and around it.

Just a thought,

This was obviously a well known problem area by the time the south african CITI golfs came along. Does anybody know if VW perhaps fitted a guard to theses cars.

Anybody had a chance to look at their CITI yet

I've got a Citi. Will look at the weekend.

Current MK1 rebuild elapsed time - 15 years and counting…
Is it normal to clean and paint bits of your car that will never be seen?
Not-so-new addition - 1996 MK1 Citi Golf (off the road for 4 years… and counting)

This will probably be of little use to you other than you now know they exist!

I picked up a liner about 18 months ago on eBay, just as you describe which covers the area around the filler pipe. It supplements the existing part guard.

The vendor sold it as such and claimed it was an after-market item, not VW.

I've yet to fit it and will try and get a photo up sometime soon.

There are no part #'s or any info cast into the plastic.

It's appears identical in type of plastic / quality / style to the guards fitted as standard elsewhere.

yes, that is howmines is at present although I dont have the triangular foam piece as I have the old style gravity valve. This trim from what I can see does not cover the actual fuel filler pipe tho.

Has anyone got a bracket for the gravity vent valve please??

Mines rusted away.

Or, an up close photograph of one???

Thanks.
