New Cabby Roof prob...

New Mohair fits perfect apart from the new tension cable - although fully tightened - still shows a bit.
The 2 material loops seem to be preventing the cable from tucking back into the seam.
What have I done wrong  :dontknow:
Photo's to follow…
Any advice?

Used the wrong rear tension cable.
These should have a sleeve that finishes short of the corners.

These tighten up around the corner areas pushing the middle out.
Did you use a brand new one?
If using the old one, these stretch so new one every time.

I would open the corner sections slightly, to allow better depth for the corner material to seat better.
Remember you have the double layer and the thickness of the tab ends to fit in there.

Did you trim the hood up before fitting?
Some need the excess trimming off and the relief cut at the sides, so it doesn't bunch up and stick out at the tonneau cover trim areas. This lets the cable sit flat.
Did you drift the material in with a drift and mallet.
I seat the material in first before tightening the cable up.
This puts the material in the right place before hand.

Also close the centre section up by tapping with block of wood and a rubber mallet.

Where did you get the hood from?

Cheers

Hi Chortle,
The hood was from Hibbs - back in March. Its in really good condition. You commented saying its a good hood.
The cable is new. Recommended from a member here on the forum from ebay - European Trimming Co.

I'll undo the cable and try again as you've said.
I paid £25 for the cable including the side cables.
Do you recommend another supplier?

Thanks for the tips.

Jim

Ah ha fair do's,
It's a good one then, I would of had it myself lol.
If your over Derby way pop round and we can have a look see.
The E bay cables are okay, but the origionals had an outer sleeve that fills the cable channel.
So you don't need to close the channel up so much.
Is the cable fully tightened?
They need to be really tight?

Cheers
Chortle
