hi der i just bought a 1984 mk1 and im from south africa
can any1 tell me the common faults of the car before i start getting stranded on the roadside :dontknow:

Well maintained MK'1 are usually very reliable

You could surf the site and see what crops up most as reliabity goes . You will find it's mostly fuel issues and electrics that keep cropping up so keeping then in tip top condition is a good start

If there is one singke thing to check on any Mk1 its the fuel filler neck!!

They get bombarded and corrode through. This then allows dirt into your tank which in turn finds its way through all your fuel lines, pump, filter, metering head, injectors, etc….

most important thing to check is that it has a nice hard roof. if it's gone all floppy, then it's off to the scrappy with it.

personally I prefer mine floppy cos the hard one stops my tan from coming along and keeps the wind out of my hair oh and less ppl would be able to see me
