need advice on fitting a roof skin can anybody help

i own a very nice rust free 1982 gti like new underneath car one big isue its got a horrible glass sunroof so i think the only way foward is to put a roof skin i have been quated ?500 to fit is this ok allso it will need roof lining its  or i could leave the glass in its just no body likes golfs with glass roof any body esle had same ploblems let me know
