My leaky cabrio .

My 92' karmann cabrio seems to have a bit of a leak now . It seems to be coming in between the drivers side window and the black rubber seals which isnt quite touching . Can these rubbers be bought new from anywhere ?

I dont fancy a winter with a leaky roof  :(

Thanks .

If the rubber is not split and the winder mechanism is adjusted correctly why not just get some new foam gaskets to go behind the seal. These where still available from VW a while back and you could put two behind just to pack it out a little.

Check out the hood fitting guide, shows you all the relevant steps.

To check the windows mechanism is adjusted correctly wind the window up full and it should just get to the top of the seal on the qtr. When you take a look will be obvious.

Also when the door is closed on the 1st notch, sort of semi open if that makes sense. The window should be making contact on the vertical for about half its length. If not may need to adjust so window is slightly more inboard.

As above, plus you need to make sure that the front seal touches the header seal that goes across the windscreen top. You may need to apply some silicone sealant around the front screw hole in the metal roof rubber retaining
bars.

I bought this for my cab, its perfect for the job. Correct width and thickness, and you certainly cant argue with the price!

I know it works as my driver seal used to leak, and now it doesnt ;)

Hi, do you mean the seal above the drivers window? where the roof folds?

I've had to completely strip the carpets out of my karmann and the underlay and soundproofing just fell to bits.

I tested the roof with a hosepipe and it seems it is leaking at the point where the roof folds. Can this be replaced?

Also, can the underlay\soundproofing be obtained from anywhere? or can anyone recommend an alternative?

Cheers,
Chris.

My 87 cab leaks from the same spot on the drivers door.  Was sat in it during a storm when i noticed i was getting wet.  I thought it had something to do with the door alignment but havent managed to stop the leak yet.  :(

have a look at the hood replacement guide on page 2 of the how to section, there are some nice pics of how the rubber channels are attached to the frame, this is what the seal in the link I posted above is for :)

nice one jonny… i'm looking into having a new roof fitted and have been quoted ?420 inc vat
but, I wanted an opinion on whether to have my paintwork tarted up before or after the roof?

one hand - paint goes on new roof

other hand roof scratches new paint!

Just going to try and find the hood fitting guide now to see if I really need to pay ?420 to have it done professionally…

main thing is you want to have the hood lip sorted before the hood goes on, no way to fix it with hood in situ.

you could have hood fitted then simply loosen the back edge where it goes into the lip before putting it in the paint shop?
