mohair Vs Vinyl

Hi,

i am new to the scene having just purchased my first ever mk1 golf gti convertable. It desperately needs a new hood. i have been looking at the new but bit confused. What is the difference between Mohair and Vinyl?

Also looking about ?300 for supply and fit of vinyl. is that a fair price?

Hi, i replaced mine with a Mohair one ,i think it looks better, and with a bit more looking after, should last longer than a Vinyl one. Mohair isn't that much more expensive either. I paid 350 quid supplied and fitted by the Carhoodwarehouse, who were excellent. Everyones got their own view, but i'm glad i went for Mohair. :dontknow:

I have to agree, seen Micks and it looks good, I'm sur he'll say the same about mine, thats mohair as well, jyust looks so much better…

Mohair is definitely best…
But whichever you choose beware of the rear window frame….(not trying to scare you, just make sure you are aware…)

just to let u no, u are not suposd to cover mohair roofs up with a car cover, as the mohair is still living and has to breath, u can buy a kit to clean and protect autogleam ones is spot on! and the water just pours straight of it,
mohair all the way man, vinyle just cracks and goes dull if u dont look after it regurley, mohair i wudnt say its a fit and forget but alot less looking after.

carhoodwharehouse and don hoods both advised me to go for a vinal. they said they are easyer to maintain and last longer if looked after, and mohair can go mouldy?? mines a vinyl an its had 15 years of abuse so its cracked and is as much use as a teabag??? i was quoted ?750+VAT FROM a shop near me, i nearly died

I had mine fitted from a soft tops, based in croydon, i had black mohar with a black vinyl headlining, they came to me at work and fitted it all, they said it is ok under a car cover as long as the car cover is breathable... cost me just over ?600 last year..

is ?600 an average price to pay for new headliner n outer mohair then?

does anyone know where i can buy just a new headlining and mines white and got it as clean as i can but still looks filthy so would like to change to a black one so anyone any ideas? rough price too perhaps?
