Mohair roof replaced :) DONE
1st I wanna thank everyone here for the advice and encouragement in undertaking
this project.
I used the installation manual from this site and it was fantastic.
the job took me all 4 days of my easter Holidays but in the end my VDUB turn out better than i expected
i think the lord would be proud hahahaha
I have one more question for you guys about this Mohair roof
and that is now that it is on what should i do to it to
protect it and clean it if need be ????
Old roof that was cracking and leaking
it was not very pleasing to the eye either
once again very ugly indeed
as you can see i tried to patch the holes but to no avail, due to the age
and the dryness of the vinyl nothing would stick to it
spent many nights trying to make it look normal or even look just ok
LOOK AT ME NOW MUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Due to the installation manual you guys gave me, the project went with out a hitch thanks again guys
DO YOU WANNA TOUCH ME )))))))
i got some advice to keep the roof closed for about 14 days so that the mohair will stretch and fall into place nicer
Once again i need some advice as to what i should do to the mohair now to protect it ???????
Oh yes also i bought the Roof, Headliner, Padding and cables from www.topsonline.com
they where very nice indeed with there advice and there feed back. they answered all my
questions very promptly and when i finally ordered the products and paid for them
the stuff was delivered from the US to Sydney in under a week.
thanks guys at topsonline and thanks to Vic for the Candy
they will be my celebration candy )
Ibal
very happy

ielmiski did you put the hood bag tabs on? Cannot see them very well in the piccy.
It was difficult to get the tensioning cable right, but it went in ok after a bit of persuading.
Jelly when you doing yours?

They also do the hoods too for the same price.
Just make sure you get new cables as the old ones stretch.
Plus be prepared to do some work on the insulation bag too.
The Head liner is easy to do.

you say it took 4 hours? was that with the interior headlinner too?
i'm a boat builder by trade so have done a bit of stuff with awnings and bimini covers etc so pretty confident i can do it but not sure about the internal one too! i will only have a short weekend to use a garage and don't want to, or can't, leave it half done!

It takes a trained fitter the best part of a day to do a roof so 4 hours is good going.
I did mine over a few day's, but that was from a strip down to bare frame and back up again. I also replaced the roof seal gaskets too.
Like I have said the headliner is not to difficult at all, in fact is easier than the hood it's self.
The stripping down can take a while.

No, just the exterior, the interior headlining and horse hair were ok on mine.
Yes it took 4 hours, minus the drying time for the hammerite on the back window frame. That was with new cables as well.
