If it helps I've got a Kamei golfball gearknob fitted to my MK3 Golf and previously had that in my MK1 so the thread size is fine but the lower edge of the knob I removed was shaped to stick into the gater and complete a seamless connection. I assume all Mk3 Knobs are lilke this so you gater doesn't 'go to sleep'. Is it a MK3 GTI Golfball one you plan to fit ?

….I'm no purist…but you have a Campaign there! For goodness sake keep it as a Campaign and leave the original golf ball gear knob on it!

i am abit of a purist too lol everything else is 100% original just the gearknob has a slight split in the plastic top so i want to take it out so it doesnt get anyworse the mk3 anniversary one is a golf ball type but is half turned alloy so thought it would be a good stand in till it goes to shows etc then they can be swapped

Sorry mate, you're right - I'll learn to keep my gob shut in future! I fart around doing silly mods to mine all the time (but it's not a Campaign)…you should do what you feel!
