mk2 bumper,will it fit?

Has anybody out there fitted a mk2 bumper on a mk1 or know how it could be done?Any comments welcome,tell me if you think it will look poo!!!

Yes ….Possibly……..  

Mk2 bumbers are wider than Mk1 items , reading an article recently [possibly GOLF+] . To fit said items meant chopping out the center section so they fit , then plastic welding , normal welding the steel inner part and filling the two halves together . Then you have to paint them .

I assume you're talking about big, as in '90 spec bumpers (if not then you are just nuts)

it can be done, but it has to be really right to work, a lot of people don't like it at all but I think it could look ok.
I've seen it before but i don't think I've ever seen it done right…










do you know what you plan to use them with? gti arches, clipper arches, and skirts, custom?

I'm pretty sure you could actually buy mk2 styles bumpers ready made to fit a mk1 from somewhere, but I have a suspecion it may have been from R and A design who I think have closed down now?? anyway you may find some ready made ones with some searching, its either that or some serious body work, plastci welding etc and probably quite alot of patience to get right…

your other option for big bumpers is to go for a clipper kit, which, as it came from a mk1 originally obviously fits properly, I think these can look pretty good too but again a lot of people don't, it does have to be done well to pull it off
