Mk1 Newbie: boot lid/karmann badges - colour coding?

Hi!

I'm a Mk1 newbie and I'm currently looking at buying a mk1 GTI cabby. I'm looking at mainly later cars (1990,91,92). I'm yet to find a car to fit the bill but ive definitly got the cabby bug and will buy one sooner or later!

I've looked at a few Helios blue cars and have noticed that the badges on the boot lid and the Karmann badge on the front wings are often the same colour as the car (i.e. Helios Blue), but on others they are the normal silver/black.  

Can anyone tell me were the badges offered as a colour coded option from new or is it a case of people being lazy and have not removed them when re-spraying the car?!

On mine they are all black with the silvered letters, I don't think I have seen them matching the body work.

Just bought as rivage and joined this forum.  Mine are black with faded/worn chrome writing.
