You rearly need a GTI donor to carry out this conversion .

You will need tank , fuel lines , fuel pump etc etc

Buy a cheap GTI and rob the bits

I would pick up a new one from gsf. ?85 or so. Quite a lot but at least it won't give you any hassle in the long run. Pretty sure I'm going to be replacing my 25 year old pump fairly soon…

How can you tell when you need a new one? I've been told Mine is on its way out but I cant afford to sort this out yet (just forked out for engine rebuild) so how can I tell when it should be done? Any noises to listen out for etc?

I wouldn't replace it until the car stops working - they can sound noisy for ages but run perfectly fine.

Maybe buy a tow-rope in the meantime as a precaution  :D

cant you just buy some fuel lines and run a fpr and facet fuel pump?? you can pick them up on ebay for quite cheap.
