Mk1 cabrio roof temporary bodge advice
Everything was going to plan, until when I was just finishing tightening the tension cable on the bottom rear of the new roof, the mofo snapped!
It turns out there was a section on the cable that had corroded slightly, and all the extra strain of pulling in the new roof was too much!
Now, ordinarilly, I would wait until my new cable arrives so I can do the job properly, but I work 35 miles away from my house, and it is my daily driver. I've booked a hire car for tomorrow, which to be honest, I could do without wasting money on.
I haven't put any of the seals back on, as I can't until the rear tension cable is on. The roof is on and secure at the front but at the moment loose at the back.
I'm thinking if I bodge the snapped cable so it is holding in place, and then put some duck tape everywhere to stop it flapping, I might just use the car, and not go fast on the motorway.
Anybody got any advice? What would you do?
I'm waiting for the cable to be delivered, and hopefully it will come on Friday, meaning I can get it on before work, however, if it doesn't arrive, I'll have to rent a car again, which I really can't afford.
HELP!
