lost key for filler cap

hi i've lost the key for the filler cap on my mk1 gti cabrio 1989 and was wondering how to go about removeing the old cap so i can fit a new one. thanks

get some one to hold the cap, put a strong screw driver in the slot and turn it aunty clockwise whilest the cap is being held still

I tell u whats even easier!!!
i just went and bought the new cap and the new key opened the old cap, its either 1 in 1'000'000 or the keys are all the same

There's about 5000 different key combinations. Close matches would probably open it too, with a wiggle or by putting it not quite into the lock, so I reckon you hit around a 1 in 100 chance there! I once owned 2x campers at the same time, amazingly the keys for either fitted each of them.

is that just the petrol caps or is that ignition and the lot?

Definitely doors, not sure about ignition (I think the wiggle potential is less) but since they're the same key, can't be too dissimilar.
